Insel-Royal – How it all began…

After his return to Germany from Brazil, Willy Mayer and his wife Berti take over the Café- Restaurant “Royal” near the main railway station in Heilbronn on December 13, 1933. Under their management, the Royal quickly becomes a local favourite.  

This is Heilbronn as it used to be – a nostalgic era. The old trams known as the “Spatzenschaukel” are still in operation, and the last of the Neckar fishermen, a man named Buck, still delivers freshly-caught fish daily to the inn called “Zum Hecht” in Lower Neckar Street.
